With the arrival of March, we’re proud to celebrate International Women’s Day all month long, and to extend our support, we sat down and spoke with eight creative women to highlight their work in practice. The theme of this year’s IWD is “Break The Bias” — seeking a world free of stereotypes and discrimination where difference is valued and celebrated to create a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We were fortunate enough to talk with women from Toronto and Vancouver, discussing their careers, achievements, and upbringings while focusing on their artistry and individuality. They welcomed us into their homes, studios, and workspaces to get a feel about who they are, what they do, and why International Women’s Day is important to them.

Rising R&B/Soul artist Jasmine Kiara is set to impress listeners once again with her highly anticipated EP, Love Wasn’t Meant for Me, dropping on November 15, 2024. This 7-track concept project weaves a narrative that explores the complexities and emotional turbulence of a toxic relationship, showcasing Jasmine’s ability to translate personal experiences into universally relatable art. From the highs of “Home” which captures the blissful honeymoon stage of love, to the heart-wrenching reality of “Uncommitted” where Jasmine expresses frustration over a relationship that feels one-sided, listeners will find themselves immersed in a deeply relatable experience.

The night’s powerful performances – ranging from Kenn Lewis’ smooth steel drums, to Jasmine Kiara’s silky R&B vocals, and Desiree McKenzie’s striking spoken-word – created an upbeat and positive atmosphere. No matter who was on stage, people were smiling, laughing, dancing, and having a great time.
